Research Interests:

I am interested in a range of mathematics applications, generally where deterministic differential equations and asymptotic methods can be brought to bear, in industry, geophysics and biology. Particular areas of current interest include the modelling of exploding rocks, biofilms, two-phase geothermal flows in pipes, lead-acid batteries, heat and light transport in sea ice, the formation of platelet and frazil ice, and coal volatilisation.

I have close links with the Department of Mathematical Sciences at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in Taejon, South Korea. I go there to teach and research applied mathematics for several months each year.

The Mathematics-in Industry Study Group has become a favourite of mine over the years, and has strongly shaped my research interests. I recommend it as a source of challenging, brainstorming, fun, energising, and vital applied mathematics problems.

Here you will find a list of my publications in my CV in pdf format.

Here are some preprints in a variety of formats, of some of my papers, available for downloading.
